I’ve been thinking about a new way to create an online peer-to-peer lending site. I’m thinking of creating a platform that would match people who have money to lend (in the form of personal checking or savings deposits) with people who need a loan. This would be a win-win for everyone. Individuals would be able to take advantage of opportunities traditionally only available to banks, e.g., earning revenue by lending out money sitting in your account. Borrowers would benefit from a lower interest rate than they would get from a credit card. My idea for this new company is to help borrowers get out of debt by enabling them to use peer-to-peer loans to get a lower-interest loan. My idea is ...Read more

My idea for this new company is to help borrowers get out of debt by enabling them to use peer-to-peer loans to get a lower-interest loan. My idea is that people could use this new platform to negotiate an interest rate between 4% and 6%.

I’ve been in talks with a few people in the industry about starting this company and I’d love to get feedback on my idea to get a better idea of whether this is a viable business idea.

How many times have you been in the car, driving through the city, and seen a street artist painting or performing on the sidewalk? How many times have you been curious about where they’re from, what they like to paint, or who they are? If you’ve seen an artist you like, you probably have no idea how to find out any of these things. My idea is to create a platform that provides street artists the ability to post their work, as well as their bio and contact information, so that if someone likes their work, they can contact the artist and purchase their work from them. This could be useful for street artists trying to make it in the art world by allowing them to make passive income by selling their work. My idea is to start this platform in Miami, since thats where Im located, but Id love feedback on how to make it scalable to other cities and other countries.

I want to create a platform that connects people to local experts when they travel. Through the platform, people would be able to search for local experts they’d want to work with: photographers, tour guides, musicians, and more. The website would work in a similar way to how Uber and Lyft work, but instead of being able to just request a ride, you’d be able to be matched with a local expert for whatever you might need. When someone searches for a local expert, they would be presented with a list of experts that match their search. When the person selects an expert, they would have the option to request a session. The expert would also be able to provide the person with a price estimate, or the expert could simply charge the person a flat fee for the session. When the session is completed, the expert would be able to provide feedback and a review for the person, and the person would be able to do the same for the expert.

Is this something you’d find useful when traveling?

I’ve been thinking about how to make it easier for people to give money to charity. I’m thinking about creating an app that allows people to indicate the charity they want to support. The app then tracks what they buy, and every time they use their debit card for a purchase, the app takes a small percentage of the cost and donates it to the charity of their choice. This would make it easier for people to donate to charity and make it easier for charities to collect donations. What do you think? Is this something you would use?

I’m interested in the social impact of the gig economy, especially in education. I was thinking about this idea for a mobile app that connects students with professional tutors. Students would create profiles describing their academic goals, what they need help with, their schedule (for example, Monday nights are the only open time slot), and what they are willing to pay. Tutors can then apply to tutor them based on those parameters and rates they set. The site helps connect both parties as well as facilitate payments between them. This could be very useful for those who need one-off help, or those who don’t have the financial means to pay for school tutoring programs but want a more flexible option ...Read more

One of the biggest challenges in healthcare is knowing whether the treatments you are receiving are working. I’m thinking about creating an online platform that helps patients gather data about their medical care. The app posts questions like what medications you are taking, what doctors you see, what procedures you undergo, and how your symptoms change over time. You can then review this data with your doctor to identify areas where things may not be working or areas for improvement. This might help patients better understand their conditions and find areas where they need more treatment, less treatment, or a different treatment altogether. What do you think? Is this something that would interest you as a patient?

I want to create a recommendation engine so groups can decide what to watch on Netflix together. Right now, the algorithm works well for individuals, but what if two or more people are watching together, and they can’t decide what to watch? This algorithm would take each person’s personal preferences and blend them together to recommend films and TV that the group would enjoy together. As groups watch more frequently together, the algorithm understands what to recommend better and the recommendations get more and more personalized Is this something you’d use?

I have this idea that we can integrate mindfulness exercises into social media. We spend hours and hours on Tik Tok and Instagram and then maybe do 10 minutes of meditating in the morning, if you’re super mindful about it. What if we can combine the two and integrate mindfulness within social media? I’m not really sure what this looks like on the technical front, so I’d love some guidance on that as well as if this is something you could see being useful!

With more and more employees reporting mental fatigue and burnout, especially since the start of COVID, companies are starting to put actions into place, offering more mental health resources, webinars, and trainings. However, these actions are typically for employees once they’ve already started burning out, which doesn’t necessarily mitigate the burnout. I propose a more proactive solution: an Employee Burnout Tracker. This tracker would link to project management software, like Jira and Asana, and it would measure employee workloads by measuring assignments given to them and deadlines. If an employee is coming close to being overloaded with work, it proactively informs the employee’s manager, so the manager can start to look for ways to alleviate workload or redistribute assignments, so the ...Read more

I believe my solution will be valuable for enterprises in helping improve employee experience and retention. If you are a corporate buyer: is this something you’d be interested in for your workforce?

I am thinking of creating a plugin to help track and share gift suggestions with people, so people can receive and give gifts they actually want.  Currently, gifting is challenging: you could take a gamble and give someone a gift they don’t actually want. You could ask their friends or family what to get them, but they might not be able to clearly identify someone else’s taste and know what they would actually want. With this plugin, you’d simply allow it to track your web browsing activity (similar to social media), and others you allow to see your activity would get personalized gift recommendations for you.  Is this something you’d use?
